Happy New year 2015!

Hello Neighbors of SFCA! Happy New Year! The committee has named the winners of our annual home decoration contest. The winner for most traditional is The Termeer Family, 7817 Spirowood St. Most original winner is the Alexander Family also on Spirowood St at 7833. Most creative winner is 2501 Sawmill Forest at the Muellers home. Congratulations to all the winners for a great job. I am sure it was a very difficult choice to make and again Congratulations to all the winners and enjoy your gift cards! Thank you so the social committee for hosting the annual Santa visit! A great time was had my all, even the jolly old elf!
At the December meeting, I announced that I will not be running for President for the 2015-2016 term. James Covey has agreed to step into the role of President , a natural fit , coming from Vice President. I have enjoyed my last three years as President, and hope the tradition continues for many years. Our homes are our assests and investments, and an active civic association is proven to keep your neighborhood in check. I have been active in our association for over 25 years and am pleased that so many neighbors have joined , and take pride in their home and property. I would like to thank the Board and the committee chairs for making my job so easy with their helpful suggestions, advice and hard work! Thank you so much!
As winter is approaching, please keep your street curb gutters clear, so rain and melting snow can make their way to the street sewers. Several years ago , we had a number of new homeowners that did not do this and the gutters to the roof of their home pulled away causing a lot of damage to the home. They had to replace new gutters as the old ones tore away and damaged the roof tops and replace a broken window to the home after high winds blew the gutter into the child’s bedroom.
Thank you to the beautification committee for decorating the street poles and front entrance. Many visitors to our neighborhood have commented to me what a wonderful place to live. I removed them today as the weather was ideal.
Thank you to Dick Barry for taking on the position of Captain of Block Watch. He also is a member of the social committee and if you have any safety concerns please direct them to Dick Barry.
Again, Happy New Year!

Halloween

Hello SFCA,
Halloween is scheduled for Thursday, October 30, from 6-8 pm. Please have porch lights on if you plan to hand out candy to the children. The Spooktacular that was earlier discussed has been cancelled. Hopefully next year, we can have a family host this fun event in their garage.
On amother note, our information signs that we use to post all info at the entrances were stolen las Thursday. If you have any scrap lumber to donate, please contact Dana at 766-1332 asap. We need to make new ones, and will chain them to the street posts once we get new ones made. Any help in this is greatly appreciated.

Happy Halloween,

Dana Smith

Autumn news

Hello Sawmill Forest Neighbors,
Fall has officially arrived and the smell of fire pits are in the air. We had a great turn out for our annual block party held last Saturday. Over 75 people attended and enjoyed hit dogs, cotton candy , and snow cones provided by your board members. Thanks so much to our gracious hosts, the Barry’s and Johnson’s for hosting this wonderful event! Everyone I spoke with was so impressed with all the wonderful potluck dishes that were brought! It’s a wonderful day in the neighborhood when we all gather , the kids get to play on the provided games and the parents can socialize and enjoy the afternoon. Thank you again!
Our next social event will be Halloween . Usually we follow Dublin’s schedule, so it is planned for Thursday, October 30 from 6-8 pm. Tba on SFCA event for Halloween.
Remember, it is getting darker earlier, so re set those porch lights, it really does deter crime in our neighborhood. According to the Columbus Dispatch, last weeks edition, we have the lowest crime rate in the city. We need to keep it that way. Also, double check those garage doors go down and stay down before pulling away. Several neighbors have left them open during the day and we have had a few break ins through unlocked entry doors. Make sure your cars are locked as well.
Enjoy the fall weather!

Summer News

Hello SFCA Neighbors! Thanks to the Social committee for a wonderful, fun filled morning on July 4th. The kids, pets and parents all enjoyed gathering at the front yards of our hosts, The Johnson Family and The Barry Family. Thank you to all the families that lined our streets and cheered on the paraders as they made their way around the neighborhood and stopped back for coffee, donuts and juice. The next social event will be the Annual Block Party planned in September, watch for more details.
Discovery Playground is making great progress, thanks to our membership chair, Stephen Kron, for heading the steering committee and president of Discovery Playground. A new and exciting playground will becoming to Olde Sawmill Park in August. There is still time to donate, purchase a brick with your family name and other donations are greatly accepted. This park is for all of us to enjoy, so make a pledge, donate , and enjoy!
On another note, Stinky the Skunk and his family have made several visits in our neighborhood and yards, leaving their scent behind. Lindsay, our husky puppy was a victim as well as our daughter trying to catch the puppy whom escaped over the fence trying to catch her. A vinegar bath , a trip by me to the pet spa with the stinking puppy , a de-skunker bath and shampoo purchase , so much better on this end. Hopefully we won’t see him in the near future as he was last seen being escorted out of the neighborhood and carefully taken to the countryside. I heard that Elliot , a neighbors dog was also skunked, glad we passed some de-skunker to Cindy and Jim. So with all this being said, watch out in the late evenings in your backyards as you let your pets out before going to bed.
Also , the mail carrier approached me the other day to tell me three mailboxes had been baseball batted. This has happened in the Coppertree subdivision in the past few weeks as well. She reminded me that this is a federal offense to destroy personal mailboxes. So please, if you see anyone driving around late and night, swinging a bat, and probablyis up to no good, please call Columbus Police Department. She is asking for help in this matter.
Finally, please send your dues in. Make a check out to Sawmill Forest Civic Association for $20.00. You may drop it off at any board members home,or mail it to Stephen Kron 7833 Larchwood St . The dues go for many activities such as, beautification projects, the front entrance maintenance, snowplowing, social committee , welcome committee. The dues help us to maintain our neighborhood and is benefitted by all of us. An active civic association is a plus for your homes value.
It is my pleasure to be voted in by all of you to lead our neighborhood for one more year. James Covey is Vice President and Webmaster, Candy Kline, secretary, and Tricia Gale, treasurer. Social committee is lead by Kim and Phil Johnson and Dick and Betty Barry. Welcome committee, Amanda Covey, Membership is lead by Stephen Kron. Beautification, Gina Atwell and Dana Smith. If you would like to be a part of a fascinating and fun filled group, please fill out your membership form and express your interest. We are always looking for new faces to join us.
Happy Summer!Be Safe!
